About Tony

I’m Tony Loth — the founder of Waypoint Bookkeeping and a lifelong Lincoln, Nebraska native, minus a stint in Maryville, Missouri where I earned my Bachelor of Science in Social Science Education from Northwest Missouri State University. I also earned a Masters of Arts degree in Management from Doane College.

Kim and I have been married since 1995, and I’ll be honest — she’s less my better half and more my compass. She knows when to cheer me on and when to reel me in, and Waypoint Bookkeeping wouldn’t exist without her steady hand. Our daughter Carlie was born in 1997 and is now an elementary school teacher in Scribner, Nebraska — though she still makes it home on weekends, which we love.

When I’m not working, you’ll find me reading, watching TV, playing cards, or just enjoying time with the people who matter most. This year I also got back into golf after a fifteen-year hiatus — I’m still a work in progress on the course, but I’m putting in the effort and having a great time doing it. My path to bookkeeping wasn’t a straight line — and that’s exactly why I think I’m good at it.

After a decade in various roles at Allstate Financial, I chased a dream I’d had for years and opened Shadowbrook Salad Company in September 2007. Thirteen months later, I made the hardest decision of my professional life and closed the doors. We started too big in an industry with razor-thin margins, and despite doing so many things right, the rookie mistakes caught up with us.

Those thirteen months were the most rewarding and humbling of my career. And they changed everything about how I see small business finances.

That experience is the foundation of Waypoint Bookkeeping. I know what it feels like to run a business without truly understanding what your numbers are telling you — the stress, the guesswork, the decisions made without a clear picture of where you actually stand. I built this business to be the resource I wish I’d had.

My job isn’t just to keep your books clean. It’s to make sure you always know where you stand — and where you’re going.
